A couple of dogs that I was able to meet through our dog daycare and pet services business in Trail, BC called Barks and Recreation. I needed to put two photos together as the owners have always had a hard time getting both the dogs to look at the camera in the same photo :).

I use high-quality heavyweight stretched canvases, and paint an acrylic base coat, then cover with oil-based paint. This is my evening job after working at our pet retail and services business located in a small town in the Kootenays, BC, Canada

Another couple of pups that I was lucky to walk twice a day while I was living in New York City. Bosco (brown) and Enzo (black) were always excited to sniff around the street unless it was rainy. I combined a photo I took of the two of them with a photo of a Bosco ad on a truck that was nearby one day. Here are some of the progress images.

Pet Portrait Painting by Cameron Dixon – Sarah and Maui

Sarah and Maui
16×20 acrylic on canvas
2011-03

This painting was for Sarah, it was from a photo that I took of her and our husky Maui in our backyard in Lethbridge, AB. Maui was beautiful, Sarah was beautiful, I had to paint it! This was the first time in a very long time that I attempted to paint a person as well. It took quite a bit longer but I gained the confidence to know that I can do it again if people requested.

2009-12 – Commissioned Painting – Pet Portrait Painting – Beans

Beans the Dog
16 x 20 acrylic on canvas
12-2009

Beans was my first painting experience for many years and the painting that had me push to continue creating commissioned pet portrait paintings. At this time I would roughly sketch out the image on the canvas and would work off of a scanned image printed out on a 8.5in x 11in piece of paper. Details would be specific to the quality of the original image/scan/print out, generally losing detail from every step. Here’s to Beans! Beans started a new realm in my painting and allowed me to paint more often and hone in on my skills.
